A dog that was left and has been in the freeway in Fresno, California for about a week gets rescued by a search and rescue group on November 14, Tuesday.
Krystle Woodward from Pinky Paws Search & ResQ posted a series of video and photo updates about the dog on their Facebook page.
In one of the updates, they revealed that they called 911 for assistance in order to rescue the dog. The rescue group said that the California Highway Patrol came out to help them.
“An officer just went out and said dog was dead,” Pinky Paws Search & ResQ wrote. But the search and rescue group insisted that the dog is alive and asked the officer to stop traffic so they could rescue it.
“I begged. He called for back up to give a break in traffic. Told us to be ready. I was shaky the whole time worrying the dog would get adrenaline and get up. I kept praying,” Woodward said.
In a heartbreaking video footage, Woodward’s husband zoomed in on the dog lying on the freeway.
Woodward’s husband can be heard saying, “As you can see in the video, it’s very very skinny [and] you can see [its] ribcage. It’s a very dangerous area.”
In the rescue video posted by Pinky Paws Search & ResQ, you can see Woodward and her husband rescuing the poor pooch.
You can see the dog trying to bite them and you can also hear it bark at them, which Woodward said was all normal.
Woodward thanked CHP for helping them rescue the dog. She said in a video update, “I’m just so thankful when our law enforcement, and our CHP, they’ve been so kind to us in saving animals.”
After rescuing the dog, Pinky Paws Search & ResQ immediately brought the dog to the vet.
They said, “Doctor said she will need 2-3 days hospitalization for fluids, bloodwork, tick test, meds, etc.” Furthermore, she tested positive for tick borne disease anaplasmosis, previously had a litter, and may have a foxtail in her ear.
In addition to these, the rescue group also found out that the dog is female, and decided to give her a name: Nova.
“We are sooooo thankful this all worked out. Thank you for helping us help this sweet angel. We can’t wait to see her tail wag and her happiness shine thru. Nova this is your new beginning,” Pinky Paws Search & ResQ wrote.
And while Nova has been rescued, she still has a long road to recovery. If you have the means to, you can help Nova in this journey and donate to her for her vet bills. See here to learn how you can donate to Nova!
